Air conditioning in Farnham and other ways to survive UK hot weather

Air conditioning in Farnham

Air conditioning in Farnham homes is just one of the ways we can make life more comfortable during hot weather. In addition to air conditioning, there are changes we can make that will help us stay productive and run our air conditioning more efficiently.

Here are our top tips for staying cool in hot weather:

1. Change your timetable

We all have different daily patterns, but they don’t necessarily work in hot weather. A gentle start to the day is all very well in winter, but when the mercury rises, it’s not a good use of time. As a rule, hot days start cooler, getting on with the day’s tasks in the morning helps you make the most of the cooler part of the day. Save your rest for when it’s too hot to do anything else!

2. Don’t stop exercising – make changes instead

If you enjoy regular exercise, it’s a good idea to do it before the day becomes too hot. Alternatively, switch to a gentler form of exercise so you don’t lose too much progress during a hot spell. If you’re usually a runner, consider switching to walking. Swimming is a great break from the heat – waterproof sunblock is your friend! If you go wild swimming, remember to check tides and currents and never swim alone. Yoga is also worth trying – it was created for a hot climate and complements almost any other discipline.

3. Stay hydrated

Sweating is a natural and healthy process that prevents our bodies from over-heating. However, sweating also means we dehydrate more quickly. Dehydration can make you feel dizzy and ill, and can impact your physical and mental performance. To counteract this, remember to drink plenty of water or other soft drinks – don’t wait until you feel thirsty. Theoretically, the body absorbs warm water more easily than cold water, but that doesn’t mean that cold water doesn’t benefit you. If drinking cold water makes you feel more refreshed, go for it! However, it’s a good idea to avoid alcohol in hot weather as it makes you sweat and urinate more, meaning you dehydrate more quickly.

4. Close your curtains

Direct sunlight is harsher than indirect sunlight, so try and keep out the sun’s rays on the south side of your home. Closing the curtains or blinds will keep south-facing rooms cooler. If you already have air conditioning, it will run more efficiently if you prevent the sun from heating the house unnecessarily.
